Watching Your Wallet: Best credit cards for recent graduates
(WFSB) - It’s college graduation season. As students head off on their own, they may want to start building credit.
“When people are just graduated, freshly out of college, the last thing they want is another bill because usually there’s a student loan bill coming or they might already be in a little bit of debt,” said Christie Matherne, an editor at WalletHub.
WalletHub rated the best credit cards for recent college graduates.
WalletHub looked for cards with no annual fee, straight-forward rewards and a card that accepts someone with limited credit history.
“Definitely a large portion of graduates have limited credit because they’re not yet taking out a bunch of loans just yet, besides from student loans, that’s different,” said Matherne.
Using that criteria, WalletHub found the best overall card for recent graduates was the Chase Freedom Rise card. However, what’s best for you will depend on your circumstances.
“If you’re new to credit, you have to consider your credit score before you start applying for credit cards,” said Matherne.
If you’re moving on to graduate school, you’ll still qualify for student credit cards too.
