Cool, damp conditions slow Minnesota small grain harvest

Cold and damp conditions continue to slow the pace of small grain harvest in Minnesota.

The latest crop progress report says there were three days suitable for fieldwork last week, slightly more than the week before.

Spring wheat harvest, at 65 percent, is six days behind the five-year average.

The harvest of oats for grain or seed advanced to 75 percent complete, well behind the late-August norm of 90 percent.

The weather is also causing problems for cutting hay, with the third cut just shy of 80 percent done.

Crop conditions for corn and soybeans held steady, at 82 and 72 percent good to excellent respectively.
