U.S. Grains Council says ATP program will grow markets

The U.S. Grains Council is among the organizations that will receive assistance through the USDA’s Agricultural Trade Promotion Program.

U.S. Grains Council President and CEO Tom Sleight says the nearly $14 million will help them access new markets all over the world.

“Expanding our work in the ethanol arena is really important, but also there’s a lot of things that we want to do in terms of finding new markets for feed,” he says. “Particular in places that we haven’t been as active like sub-Saharan Africa and South Asian, which is India, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.”

He tells Brownfield they are also interested in expanding programs in existing markets.

“Like Mexico where we can continue to promote DDGs- we can find new markets for that anywhere in that country, so we never feel like we’re done there,” he says. “But also reinventing markets like in Japan and South Korea.”

The USDA awarded $200 million to 57 organizations through the Agricultural Trade Promotion Program.

The announcement is part of the $12 billion trade mitigation package authorized by President Trump to help farmers hurt by the trade war with China.
