‘Enhanced Piraeus port railway link to central Europe a strategic priority’

The enhancement of the railway connection from Piraeus Port to central Europe, along with the broader integration of Greek ports into the rail network, is a strategic priority for Greece, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Dimas told Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Fanq Qiu, during a meeting in Athens on Thursday.
According to a joint statement released after the meeting, the ambassador reaffirmed China’s interest in improving Piraeus Port’s rail connectivity for freight transport and extended an invitation to Dimas – who was appointed last month following a Cabinet reshuffle – to visit China for meetings with his counterparts.
Dimas welcomed the Chinese diplomat, also newly appointed to his post, to Greece.
The statement further emphasized that both Greece and China share the view that their deep historical and cultural heritage serves as a foundation for strong cooperation in the present and its further development in the future. [AMNA]
